Wildlife Cards, Prints, Bookmarks, Painted Stones & Slates
I have always loved drawing & painting, especially birds and animals, and enjoyed accompanying my mum to the local Art Club when I was a girl. I did higher art at Bell Baxter High School in Cupar, Fife, but had no wish to make a career out of it. Instead, my love of wildlife led me to study zoology at university, and art became a lifelong hobby.
Family commitments reduced the time I had to paint, but when all my children had left home, I was able to set up a dedicated art room, which changed things immensely. Now I can leave my work spread out and shut the door until I am free to get back to it again.
Fifteen years ago my youngest son had the chance to go on a school trip to South Africa. This inspired me to get painting seriously and I painted pictures for and hand made a series of African wildlife cards to sell to raise money for the trip.
In October 2014, I joined the Ochil Crafts, which is one of the best things I have ever done. So many opportunities have come my way as a result. I now have a large range of cards and prints on sale, paint wildlife pictures onto pebbles, stones and slates and I have painted a large number of pet portraits for customers. My goods are sold in the Ochil Crafts shop in Grangemouth, in The Seagull Trust Bookshop in Falkirk and at several craft fairs throughout the year.
As to the future … I have so many ideas and new styles that I would like to experiment with. Here’s hoping I can find the time to do just a few of them.
