Local View Cards, Bunting, Ribbon Bookmarks & Novelty Gifts

I reckon I was born to be crafty! My first memories are of being taught to knit by my mother, and hand sewing a red gingham tray cloth and matching napkins at primary school (which I still have!). Later in life a friend of my mother’s taught me how to crochet.

My paternal grandmother had been a dressmaker and she gave me a sewing machine for my 21st birthday – I am still using it today, 55+ years on! In the early days I used to make skirts and dresses for myself, then progressed to curtains and cushion covers for the house. Now I mainly make bunting.

I started in Ochil Crafts many years ago in its early days, selling knitted and crocheted baby goods, but after a break of a few years I returned with a completely new range of novelty gifts and cards. The most popular of these are the verse cards containing a teabag or coffee bag, plus my “Treasure Box of Thoughts”. I’ve diversified over time, and my range now includes cross bookmarks; ribbon bookmarks; lavender bags; notelets, magnets and key rings of the Kelpies and other local views printed from my own photographs; and my latest – ‘paperclip angels’ and fabric bunting. My inspiration often comes from gifts which people have brought back from holidays, usually North America.

Despite having my own “den”, I have other non-crafty interests which occupy that space too, so I often spread myself out to other rooms in the house when crafting, much to hubby’s annoyance!!

I sell in the Ochil Craft shop in Grangemouth and the Seagull Trust Bookshop in Falkirk. I attend the Ochil Crafts monthly markets in the Howgate Centre in Falkirk, and other craft fairs and agricultural shows throughout the year.
